What does this measure?

The average number of elementary students attending school each day, divided by the total number of students. Elementary students are defined as those in kindergarten through sixth grades.

Why is this important?

Children who do not regularly attend elementary school will miss out on developing key skills, such as reading and arithmetic, that are critical to future success in school and life. They are also likely to continue a pattern of irregular and insufficient attendance later in their schooling.

How is the Greater Capital Region performing?

In 2007, the regional attendance rate for elementary school students was 95%. The rate has hovered near 95% for the past eight years and has been consistently slightly higher than the rate statewide.
