A region is only as strong as its weakest members. We strive to create a community where all residents can meet their basic needs so they can reach for higher goals, including education and a productive, fulfilling life.

United Way invests in programs and initiatives that ensure members of our community have access to supports and services to meet basic needs for food, shelter, safety and child care for individuals and dependent family members.  United Way-funded partners and initiatives coordinate plans and goals to address community issues, fill existing gaps in services and integrate services to create a sound safety net.

In this section, we report our progress by examining measures related to poverty and income and to the status of children raised by single parents. Because safe and affordable housing is a critical need for individuals and families, we also assess the region’s homeownership rates, home values and affordability measures, for both homeowners and renters.
