Competitive Workforce Meeting Community Needs

Financial security is fundamental for families and individuals to be able to function as productive members of our community. A vibrant economy provides the resources necessary for community members to achieve financial security.

United Way continues to work with multiple partners, primarily through the CA$H (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Coalition of the Greater Capital Region, to provide individuals with free tax return preparation with bigger refunds, credit counseling, job training, budgeting help, financial education and advocacy, assistance with establishing banking relationships and more.

In this section, we examine the health of the region’s economy by tracking jobs statistics, including overall employment, employment by sector, high-tech jobs and unemployment rates. We measure the proportion of the population that is working and analyze changes in the working-age population. And we measure the preparation of the region’s residents by examining their education levels.

We also want to draw attention to the people in our community in need of help. To do so, we track participation in a number of government programs and community services. These indicators measure the numbers of residents receiving welfare, emergency food, food stamps, subsidized child care, government-sponsored health insurance, and other benefits and services.
