Previous studies

This project builds upon two prior studies conducted in the area: The 2001 Profile of Community-Wide Outcomes in Albany, Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties and the 2003 Schenectady County Profile.

Profile of Community-Wide Outcomes in Albany, Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties

In 2001, the United Way of Northeastern New York, serving Albany, Rensselaer, and Saratoga Counties, engaged CGR to conduct an area wide needs assessment to track how well the region and its individual counties were doing in addressing community needs. In 2001, CGR developed and produced the first baseline community-wide profile to objectively assess, on a periodic basis, changes over time in the region’s "well-being" across six broad focus areas and 25 specific issue areas. These data were supplemented through interviews with selected community leaders and stakeholders on their perceptions of unmet community needs. The United Way subsequently used the profile to reallocate funding to meet community priorities. The community profile process also helped to develop collaboration among county government, other funders, providers, schools and faith-based communities to tackle cross-system service delivery issues.

Schenectady County Community Profile 2003: How Well Are We Doing? Compiled by Capital Region BOCES

CGR compiled information for an in-depth community profile of Schenectady County showing how the county was doing in a wide range of areas affecting the quality of life for Schenectady residents. The report presented data on 59 indicators showing the county's status in achieving success by six, building futures for youth, meeting essential needs, strengthening families, maintaining senior independence and building stronger communities. The profile was developed through a community engagement process and was intended as a tool for community leaders for planning and bringing about needed improvements.
